Uncovr, a medical technology firm operating out of New York and Paris, has successfully closed a $7 million seed funding round led by Index Ventures. The capital injection, announced on June 10, 2026, aims to accelerate the deployment of the company’s computer vision platform designed to automate the generation of operative reports from surgical video feeds.
The current standard for surgical documentation relies heavily on manual input, often requiring surgeons to reconstruct procedural details from memory hours after an operation concludes. Uncovr seeks to eliminate this latency by utilizing real-time video analysis to capture every instrument interaction, anatomical step, and clinical decision as it occurs. The platform maps these captured events directly to relevant clinical and billing codes before the surgeon exits the operating room. Surgeons retain oversight, reviewing and approving the AI-generated drafts prior to formal submission.
Co-founder and CEO Ines Iraki emphasizes that the platform functions by ingesting surgical or endoscopic video and applying specialized computer vision models to interpret high-stakes procedural data. The company was established in 2025 with the specific goal of replacing manual reporting with automated extraction, thereby reducing the administrative burden on surgical staff. According to Iraki, the system is designed to function as an extension of the surgeon’s own observation, documenting every decision made throughout the procedure.
The technical architecture of the platform is heavily influenced by the background of co-founder and CTO Johann Diep, whose previous experience includes developing autonomous rover technologies for the European Space Agency and space situational awareness infrastructure for the Swiss Armed Forces. This expertise in processing high-stakes, real-time video data is critical for the reliability required in a clinical setting. Medical co-founder Prof. Eric Vibert, an academic surgeon, provides the necessary clinical validation to navigate the complex requirements of hospital environments.
Processing surgical video presents unique challenges, including occlusions caused by surgical instruments, varying lighting conditions, and the need for high-fidelity temporal segmentation. The Uncovr platform must accurately distinguish between different surgical tools and track their movement relative to complex anatomical structures in real time. Martin Mignot, a partner at Index Ventures, noted that the team has successfully achieved adoption within the highly regulated healthcare sector. He highlighted that by structuring the events occurring within the operating room, Uncovr is effectively building a foundational dataset for future surgical AI applications. The company intends to utilize the new funding to expand its engineering team and accelerate the rollout of its software to the facilities currently in its deployment pipeline.
The broader market for surgical intelligence is seeing increased capital allocation, with competitors like Theator and Caresyntax focusing on performance analytics and broader workflow integration. While these firms address quality analysis and outcomes data, Uncovr distinguishes itself through its focus on real-time documentation and immediate reimbursement application.
